E3 is behind us and there are plenty of great games on the horizon.
But with the number of games that are coming out, there are still plenty of great gems to pick up right now, both new titles and classic favorites
GAMES I PICKED UP –
XBox Live is having another game sale… It must be Tuesday.
Seriously, a week cannot go by without the guys at Microsoft putting a slew of games on sale for ridiculous prices. This is honestly one of the reasons I don’t buy a lot of games brand new anymore. The other being that game prices are once again getting ludicrously high and I can’t justify dishing out 60 bucks every time a new game comes out.
So that’s why I picked up Forza Horizon… for just over 10 bucks.
The game was on sale for 67 percent off its marked price. Naturally, you can’t go wrong for a 10 dollar game, especially when that game was considered one of the best games of the year for the year that it came out.
I haven’t got a chance to play much of this game yet, but the idea of an open world racing game definitely caught my attention. I’ll keep you posted on how it turns out!
Battle Princess of Arcadias
Yes, I’m cheating a little with this entry. I know this game is a free review copy that’s been provided to GameOnGNT by NIS America, but as far as I’m concerned, its a new game in my collection, so it counts.
Anyway, Battle Princess of Arcadias just came out today and I actually got a chance to first give it a go yesterday. Got to love advanced copies, even if it is only a day in advance.
At this point, this game is the subject of a review here on GameOnGNT, but I’ve written out my initial thoughts on the game in a previous article, so be sure to check it out!
Thomas Was Alone
Another free download, thanks to PlayStation Plus. Thomas Was Alone is a game that I’ve been curious about for quite some time. I always thought the idea that you are playing as a rectangle would seem odd and weird, so I’ve always put off picking it up. But when a game is free, who cares how odd and weird it might be?
So I gave it a go and couldn’t put it down until I finished the game a few hours later. This game is addicting and the story it tells (Yes, a story for a group of rectangles.) is actually really good!
Seriously, if you have PlayStation Plus and have not downloaded this game yet, do yourself a favor and give it a go. Its definitely a fun way to spend an afternoon and it doesn’t do that much of a dent on your hard drive space.
SALES I AVOIDED –
The Last of Us – Half Price
I love/hate stopping in to visit EB Games on a weekly basis.
Some weeks, I find deals that I simply can’t refuse, like spending just over 10 bucks on Metal Gear Rising Revengeance last week.
Others, I find a deal that I want to jump on, but just can’t afford at the moment. Case in point, The Last of Us for PlayStation 3.
EB Games had a copy of The Last of Us on sale for 34 bucks this past week. Considering the game was 60 bucks when it first came out, that’s nearly half-price.
That being said, I turned it down. As much as I would love to pick this game up and give it a go, I know that they just announced the Remastered version for the PlayStation 4 at E3. To me, that means we’re going to see a sharp drop in price for the original version of the game sooner or later.
I guarantee you I will be able to find this game for 20 bucks soon enough. Then I’ll be cracking open the wallet!
Editor’s Note – Probably a good thing I avoided that sale. My wife and daughter surprised me with a late Father’s Day gift… The Last of Us! Got to love having a family that understands gaming!
The Target Video Game Sale
So apparently, Target in Canada is selling games at a ridiculous price right now. No idea why they are doing that and I’m not even going to try to explain it. I just want some cheap games.
Just going by a recent Facebook post I saw, Pokemon Black 2 and White 2 are on sale for $17.50, Grand Theft Auto V is on sale for 15 bucks and even Wii Us were going for around $150 bucks. That’s just ridiculous!
Would I buy a Wii U? For 150 bucks, Hell yeah I would!
But according to GameOn Contributor Kyle Born, he stopped into our local Target and the Wii Us were already all gone. This was the first day of the sale.
Oh well, maybe I’ll check in and pick up a copy of GTA V at some point this week.
Nintendo’s E3 Special
During the week of E3, Nintendo had quite the special going on for their flagship franchises. This meant that just about every Mario and Zelda game were on sale for 30 percent off, along with Sonic and Lego games for some reason.
There were a handful of games in this sale that I was interested in giving a go, like Ocarina of Time 3D, Mario Party: Island Tour and LEGO The Hobbit, but really didn’t have the money to pick those up last week, so I let that sale disappear on me. I’m not too choked up on missing the 3DS installment of Mario Party or LEGO The Hobbit, but Ocarina of Time 3D would have been pretty sweet to give a go, just to see the improvements over the N64 version.
GAMES IN MY BACKLOG THAT GOT SOME ATTENTION
Skyrim: Elder Scrolls 5
I picked up Skyrim for cheap through an XBox Live sale a while back. I think I got it for like 20 bucks back in Spring.
That being said, it became another addition to my sizable backlog of games that I just didn’t have the time to play.
That was true until Saturday, when I finally booted up my XBox 360 to give this game a try.
I’ve been playing it for the last three days straight. You’ll be hearing more about these adventures at some point. I guarantee it.
