GameOn First Impressions – Criminal Girls: Invite Only

Today, I take a look at Criminal Girls: Invite Only from NIS America, available physically and digitally across North America today.

We’re bringing back our GameOn First Impressions series, and believe me, you will be getting a lot of first impression videos, now that we’ve got a PlayStation TV.

NIS America has provided us with an absolutely ridiculous catalog of games to give a go, so we’re going through quite a few JRPGs at the moment, including today’s title.

Criminal Girls: Invite Only isn’t your typical dungeon crawler and that can be good or bad, depending on your perspective.

On one hand, this is the most unique battle system that I’ve had the opportunity to play in quite some time. The characters in your party propose what moves they want to do while fighting the enemy. This creates innovation and strategy, as each character has a different moveset, but you can only select one option at a time. I’ve had a lot of fun playing because of this.

But on the other hand, there’s the Motivate system… which involves motivating the girls in your party with things like whips and tazers.

The Motivate system requires you to gather skill points by winning battles and use these points to level up in the Motivate mini-game. To complete the mini-game, you have to use tools like whips and tazers on certain icons that pop up within a time limit.

While this is going on, there’s a suggestive picture of the party member you are levelling up in the background, hidden in pink smoke. Each time you successfully whip an icon, some of the pink smoke disappears, revealing more of the picture.

GameOn First Impressions is our chance to give you a look at what to expect from some of the newest games to come out. Sometimes a game is simply too long to give a full review under our time constraints. We’re looking at the first hour of this game and talking about what stands out and what falls flat.

If you like what you see, check it out for yourself and download Criminal Girls: Invite Only on your PlayStation Vita from PSN!
